What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a new game by the same developer, The Bearded Ladies, that has been in development for over 5 years now and was first released on Steam Early Access back in May of 2015. It’s an action-RPG with RPG elements set in a post apocalyptic world where you play as one of many different characters who are all trying to survive. You can choose from 4 races (Human, Elf, Dwarf and Orc) each with their own unique abilities and skills. There are also 3 classes: Warrior, Mage and Ranger. Each race has 2 starting areas, which are randomly generated every time you start a new game. These starting areas have different resources available to them, such as wood, stone or iron ore. Once you’ve chosen your class and race you’ll be sent off into the wilds of the land to find out what happened here and how you can survive.

The story takes place after the apocalypse, but before the rise of the humans. After the fall of civilization, there were only Elves left living in this world. They had no idea what caused it to happen, but they knew something terrible did. Some say it was a meteorite impact, others think it was nuclear war. Whatever the case may be, it changed everything. Now, the elves live alone in the wilderness, struggling to make ends meet. But they still remember their past lives, and some even believe that they’re not really human at all. So when a group of humans show up claiming to be survivors of the apocalypse, they take advantage of this situation and begin to exploit the elves’ labor force. This leads to conflict between the two groups, and the elves must decide if they want to fight alongside these “new” humans.
