Soccer superstar Lionel Messi has joined NFT game Sorare as an investor

Lionel Messi, one of the biggest Argentinean soccer stars, has announced his participation in Sorare, an Ethereum-based non-fungible token (NFT) gaming platform. The economic details of this deal were not disclosed. However, according to the press release, “Sorare plans to use Messi’s name and image to
help promote its products.”

Lionel Messi has partnered up with NFT game Sorare for their new soccer game

Lionel Messi, one the world’s biggest football stars and current player for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), is now an investor and brand ambassador for the NFT (non-fungible token) gaming platform Sorare. His involvement is meant to help grow the company’s brand and improve the overall quality of the interactions the company has with its user base.
According to Sorare, Messi’s investment is an important step forward for the firm, which has attracted interest from several prominent footballers before now.

Messi’s deal would include the launch of new experiences on the app. On this development, his CEO and co-founding partner Nicolas Julia said:

“We believe Messi will help us set new standards in how we do this, and we look forward to sharing what new content and fan experiences we’ve been collaborating on soon.”

Other athletes like soccer player Kylian Mbapeu and basketball star LeBron James have already partnered up with the company. It raised $680 million in a Series B round in September 2019.

Messi’s Crypto Ties

To Messi, becoming involved in crypto and blockchain technology is not something new. He has already been linked to many projects in the space. In August 2019, he became the first professional footballer to sign a contract with a major soccer team that pays him in cryptocurrencies. Under the agreement, he receives part of his $30M salary in $PSG tokens, a project backed by the French football club Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

During his time at Barcelona, Messi has been linked to several cryptocurrency projects.
